The Geological Survey of Victoria (GSV) has studied and mapped the geology of Victoria for more than 165 years, providing pre-competitive geoscience information to explorers, existing tenement holders and the public.
The GSV undertakes projects and programs in three areas - regional geological investigations, mineral and energy resource and prospectivity assessments and geoscience information management.
The Geological Survey of Victoria is currently undertaking the Victorian Gas Program (VGP). The VGP is a comprehensive suite of scientific studies looking at Victoria’s gas prospectivity and the issues associated with onshore gas exploration and development to inform decisions by the Victorian Government. The Victorian Gas Program includes investigations of onshore conventional gas resources, development of offshore gas, and underground gas storage.
